This article unpacks the common claim that children and teens drinking with their parents will prevent drinking problems based on a new study in the latest issue of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs.  The findings of the study were actually the reverse, drinking with parents at home lead to a higher risk of alcohol related problems later in life.  

This article warns against U.S. parents taking after the relaxed approach to alcohol found in many European countries based on the latest findings of researcher Caitlin Abar of the Prevention Research and Methodology Center at Pennsylvania State University.  She conducted a study on college freshman and found that "Those students whose parents never allowed them to drink -- about half of the group -- were significantly less likely to drink heavily in college, regardless of gender."
