GREAT news! GMRSD is a finalist for MassRecycle's School Recycler of the Year Award! This is in recognition of recycling, but mostly of composting, which is currently diverting 8 cubic yards, or 32 cubic yards a month (or, ten 30 yard dumpster per year!), of compostable food and paper waste from the landfill and to Martin's Farm for composting. GMRSD schools also recycle cardboard, paper, plastic, metal and glass. Thanks to everyone who handles recycling and composting, and to all for properly recycling and composting your waste!

This is the second award that GMRSD will (probably) win for its comprehensive compost program; this spring at the State House GMRSD was recognized as a 2012 Green School (http://www.projectgreenschools.org/green-difference-awards-2/). This "Recycler of the Year" award from MassRecycle is even more prestigious, and the award will be presented on Nov. 13th in Boston:http://www.massrecycle.org/index.php/ 2012-07-12-21-15-42/recycling-awards/overview. I nominated GMRSD for both of these awards and my nomination for the MassRecycle award is attached.
