Franklin County Fair Recycling Volunteers

Dear Teachers, Educators, and Friends,

I know September seems a long way off but, you know as well as I do, summer flies by and it won't be long until the Franklin County Fair will be fast approaching! The 2012 Fair is from September 6 - 9 (Th- Sun). Volunteers are also needed pre and post fair for set up.

As usual, in late August / early September I'd love your assistance in getting your students signed up to volunteer for the Fair's Recycle/ Compost Program. During the 2011 Fair we recycled a record 29 cubic yards of plastic, metal, and glass, along with 10 densely packed cubic yards of food and paper waste for composting at Martin's Farm! The main reason we were able to capture so much material (about 2 tons) is due to our new Recycle/ Compost/ Trash Stations, funded by a grant from MassDEP. Twenty new compost/ recycle/ trash stations (pictured below), complete with colorful signage and bins, educate attendees about what goes into each bin. Also, 100 additional recycle bins are placed around the Fairgrounds.

The Franklin County Agricultural Society and the Franklin County Solid Waste District are both non profit organizations and we greatly appreciate your support!

Please let me know if you have any questions or if you can get any early sign ups this summer.

Thanks, and Happy Summer,

Amy Donovan
